Run-Flat InsertReplacement Workflow
Step-by-step workflow overview for safe, hydraulic-assisted run-flat insert replacement on military wheel assemblies.
Understanding the Assembly
Military run-flat inserts are press-fit polyurethane or composite rings seated inside the wheel rim, beneath the tire. Replacement requires controlled hydraulic force to extract the old insert and press-fit the new one — a process that manual methods cannot safely achieve.
Detailed procedures must be performed only by trained personnel using official GM Defensive operating manuals, approved tools, and safety instructions.
Replacement Procedure Overview
This overview describes the general workflow when using GM Defensive equipment. Always follow applicable Technical Manuals and unit SOPs.
Vehicle & Wheel Preparation
Secure vehicle, remove wheel assembly using approved procedures and MHE. Transport to maintenance bay.
Tire Mounting & Bead Break
Mount tire assembly on GM Defensive machine. Hydraulic bead break separates tire from rim safely.
Rim Separation
Controlled hydraulic separation of multi-piece rim components. Safety shield engagement required.
Run-Flat Insert Extraction
Hydraulic extraction of press-fit run-flat insert from wheel assembly. Controlled force application.
Inspection & Replacement
Inspect insert for damage, wear, and serviceability. Install new or serviceable insert per TM specifications.
Reassembly & Quality Check
Reassemble tire, rim, and insert. Perform inflation, torque verification, and final QC inspection.
Available Across All Configurations
Run-flat insert replacement capability is available in all three GM Defensive machine deployment formats.
